Project Leadership is a Project of National
Significance funded by the Administration on Developmental Disabilities.
Three partners Self-Advocates Becoming Empowered, Inclusion Inc., and Community
Options Center on Innovation manage the project. The purpose of the grant
is to: Provide self-advocates and parent leaders from the United States and
its territories with training on Self-Determination and Federal Policy. Develop
a national network of self-advocates and parents. |
| We are so excited about our third year class.
We have 32 self advocates and parents who are participating in this years
class. Project Leadership has trained 103 self-advocates and parent leaders
over the last three year. |
| We completed our first week of training
for February 8-14. The highlight of the first week included a session on
current legislative issues with staffers from Senators Kennedy, Jeffords,
Grassley, and Congressman Sessions and his staffer. The second week of training
is scheduled for July 12-18. The second week session will include a forum
where participants will present on a variety of federal policy issues, such
as Olmstead implementation, IDEA, Medicaid waivers and self-determination,
self-advocacy and the developmental disability act. |
| Project Leadership is also sponsoring our
second Regional Project Leadership training in Kansas City, Missouri for
SABE Regions 4 and 5. Training is scheduled for May 20-23. There will be
a limited number of stipends for participants. People First of Missouri is
coordinating the training for Self Advocates Becoming Empowered. |
