The annual Texas Advocates Conference is August 26-28th in San Antonio, Texas.
We are expecting 400 advocates from all over Texas.
We are excited to have Nancy Ward from Oklahoma as our keynote speaker.
Self advocates will present great workshops and we will have fun at Morgan’s Wonderland, the world’s first accessible theme park
See our web site
www.txadvocates.org
for info on next year’s conference.
Many self advocates worked hard and Texas passed a respectful language bill, HB1481.
From now on Texas laws will use more respectful language and put the person before their disability.
Several Texas Advocate members were honored to attend the bill signing with Governor Rick Perry.
18 out of 20 Texas Advocates chapters spoke up at the Capitol this session.
We delivered over 1000 letters to Texas legislators from self advocates, families, and providers from all across Texas.
We asked them to think before cutting Medicaid and community services.
Texas Advocates attended many rallies supporting community living like the Invest in Community Rally.
Thank you for letting me give this report.
